Why SMBs need someone on their side of the table
A business with twenty people buys software the way a household buys a car: rarely, under pressure, from people who sell it for a living. The result is familiar. Overlapping subscriptions nobody fully uses, a website locked to an agency, a CRM configured for a business that no longer exists, and an AI tool bought because a competitor mentioned one. None of it is anyone's job to fix.
Consulting for SMBs is about being that person, part-time and independent. We do not resell software or take commissions from vendors, so a recommendation to keep what you have, or to buy nothing, costs us the same as a recommendation to build. That independence is the product.
What consulting engagements look like
- Technology roadmap. A plain-language plan for the next twelve to twenty-four months: what to fix, what to replace, what to build and in what order, with budgets attached. Usually two to three weeks of work.
- Tool and vendor selection. Comparing CRM, accounting, booking, e-commerce or automation platforms against how your business actually runs, then negotiating and configuring the one you pick.
- AI readiness and governance. Where AI would pay back, what data is safe to use, what policies your team needs, and which vendors are credible. Often the first step before our implementation work.
- Fractional technical leadership. A set number of days a month as your technical lead: managing developers or agencies, reviewing quotes and contracts, owning the roadmap, reporting to the owner or the board.
- Second opinions. A quote from an agency, a proposal from a software vendor, a contract for a platform. We read it and tell you what it means.
How we work
Every engagement starts with the business, not the technology: what you sell, how work flows, where time and money leak, what the next two years need to look like. Then we look at the tools, the data and the people, and write recommendations in language an owner can act on, with costs and trade-offs rather than a preferred vendor.
Because we also design, build and implement, the advice is grounded in what things actually cost and how long they take. Because we do not have to be the ones who build it, the advice can be to hire someone else, or nobody. Bilingual delivery is standard: workshops, documents and vendor communications in French or English as your team prefers.
Pricing and engagement
Roadmaps and readiness assessments are fixed-price projects scoped after a short call. Fractional leadership is a monthly retainer for an agreed number of days, month to month after an initial term. Second opinions are billed by the hour. Nothing is tied to a purchase, and nothing obliges you to build with us afterwards.
If you are facing a technology decision this quarter, a new site, a CRM, an AI tool, an agency quote you are not sure about, the project form is the fastest way to get an independent read on it.
