Blackburn Creative

Web design and development that earns its keep.

We design and hand-build websites for businesses in Gatineau, Ottawa and across Canada. Every site is custom-coded, bilingual when you need it, optimized for search from day one, and built to turn visitors into calls, bookings and quote requests.

Why a custom website beats a template

A template gives you the same layout, the same load time and the same limitations as thousands of other businesses. A custom site is designed around your customer's decision: what they need to see, in what order, before they trust you enough to reach out.

That is why our sites are hand-coded rather than assembled in a page builder. We control every kilobyte, so pages load fast on a phone in a parking lot. We write the HTML structure that search engines read, so your service pages can rank for the terms your customers actually type. And nothing is locked behind a plugin licence you have to renew forever.

  • Scores in the green on Google's Core Web Vitals, which affects both rankings and conversion
  • Accessible by default: contrast, keyboard navigation, screen-reader labels, reduced-motion support
  • Bilingual structure with proper hreflang tags, so French and English pages rank in the right market
  • You own the code and the hosting. No platform lock-in.

What we build

Most of our work falls into four shapes. A service business site for trades, clinics, studios and firms, built to win local search in the Outaouais and Ottawa and to convert calls and quote requests. A portfolio or brand site for creatives and professionals where the design itself is the credential. An e-commerce store with the checkout, shipping and tax logic that Canadian sellers need. And a platform, where the website is really the front door to booking, client portals or an application we build alongside it.

Two examples from our own portfolio: Parsell started as a marketing site and grew into a full real-estate platform with booking and listings, and Bélair Aménagement went from no site to a 22-page bilingual site that dominates local landscaping searches in Gatineau.

Built for search, not just for looks

A beautiful site nobody finds is an expensive brochure. We treat search as part of the build, not a later add-on. Before design starts we map the searches that matter for your business, then structure the site so each important service or location has a page that can rank for it.

On the technical side, that means clean semantic markup, fast rendering, descriptive titles and meta descriptions, structured data for your business and services, a proper sitemap, and image handling that keeps pages light. On the content side, it means writing pages that answer the questions your customers are asking, in the language they ask them in. If you want to go deeper, our guide on content that compounds explains how a site keeps earning traffic long after launch.

What a website costs and how long it takes

Every quote is scoped to the project, but the pattern is consistent. A focused one-page or small-business site is the fastest and least expensive. A multi-page bilingual site with custom design sits in the middle. E-commerce and platforms with booking, portals or integrations are the largest builds and are usually phased.

Timelines follow the same curve: roughly three to five weeks for a small site, six to ten weeks for a full bilingual site, and longer for platforms. We publish an honest breakdown of price ranges in how much a website costs for a small business in Canada, and if you are weighing doing it yourself, read DIY vs hiring a professional first. Either way, the fastest path to a real number is the project form: three steps, two minutes.

Questions we get asked

Do you build on WordPress, Wix or Squarespace?

No. We hand-code every site so it loads faster, ranks better and never depends on a plugin renewal. If you need to edit content yourself, we add a lightweight content layer scoped to what you actually update.

Can you build the site in French and English?

Yes. Bilingual builds are our default in the Gatineau-Ottawa market. Both languages get full pages, proper hreflang tags and a language switcher that keeps visitors on the equivalent page.

Will my site rank on Google?

We build every site to be rankable: fast, structured, with the right pages for the right searches. Ranking also depends on content, competition and time, which is why we offer ongoing SEO and content work after launch.

Do I own my website?

Completely. You own the code, the design files, the domain and the hosting account. If you ever leave, everything comes with you.

How long does a website take?

Three to five weeks for a small site, six to ten for a full bilingual site, longer for e-commerce or platforms. The biggest variable is how quickly content and feedback come back to us.
